Why does Loser Kamp keep coming back to the KFF?

| The 2022 Kerrville Folk Festival will be Loser Kamp’s 32nd year in attendance. There is an average of 45 people in our kamp at any given time, and the ages range from 5-80. When polling a few key members on the question proposed, there was one consistent word, “magic”.

There is a magic that happens when you step on the ranch that fills your soul and “recharges your batteries” for the rest of the year. It is a magic that your soul yearns for every year. As the festival grows closer you can feel the excitement amongst your fellow Kerverts. Attending the festival becomes as necessary for your spirit as breathing. The sense of community, the family reunion, the smells of food cooking on a grill, the sound of guitars, fiddles, and shakers, but most of all laughter. Laughter, smiles, and hugs for 18 days. When you mix laughter, smiles, and hugs with music, you make “magic”.

[[The music happens 24 hrs. a day in one form or another. A single guitar playing while bacon is cooking, and coffee is brewing. A small circle of guitars by lunch time, a few harmonies added here and there. Then on to professionals on the festival stage, new folk winners or maybe a children’s concert, mostly attended by adults. All through the day the “magic” is growing, preparing itself for the night’s festivities. As soon as the festival stage closes, the music in Loser Kamp takes hold of the sacred ground and begins to shake. We play originals, cover tunes, we dance, we drink, we eat, we harmonize, but most of all, we laugh. We play sad songs, happy songs, love songs, you name it. We welcome anyone into our circle, any caliber of musician and you can play anything you want. You need only be brave enough. Many of the people in our kamp are people who were standing on the outside of our giant canopy listening that decided to jump into our circle. Now you must be prepared because our long-time players are fantastic pickers, song writers and singers. They are passionate about the music, and they pay homage to the great song writers of all genres of music. Most of all they are fabulous people. You will get your share of John Prine or Guy Clark, but you are also gonna hear some Little Feat, Prince, and Joe Ely to name a few. We are not your traditional folk festival kamp. ]]

Basically, anything goes.

So why do we keep coming back, because we are addicted to the magic. Come see us and get you some.
